An insightful webinar on Global INTAN-Invest by the Bureau of Economic Analysis

16 December 2024, 07:00

Following the successful webinars with the OECD, the IMF and the EIB, Global INTAN-Invest was showcased during an insightful webinar hosted by the Bureau of Economic Analysis – BEA, an independent federal statistical agency dedicated to promoting a better understanding of the U.S. economy.

Held online on 16 December 2024, the webinar aimed to provide an overview of the Global INTAN-Invest database and showcasing the World Intangible Investment Highlights report.

The session began with introductory remarks by Carsten Fink (Chief Economist, WIPO) and Cecilia Jona-Lasinio (Full Professor of Applied Economics, Luiss Business School), representing the Global INTAN-Invest team. The floor was then given to Filippo Bontadini (Assistant Professor of Applied Economics, Luiss University), who illustrated new data on intangible investment from the Global INTAN-Invest project.

Particular attention was given to the World Intangible Investment Highlights, co-published by WIPO and Luiss Business School in 2024. The report draws on the latest release of the Global INTAN-Invest database, which covers 26 high-income and emerging economies – collectively representing over half of the world’s GDP in 2023 – and is expected to expand its coverage in future editions.

The Q&A session fostered a productive discussion between the Global INTAN-Invest team and BEA staff, highlighting the growing interest in intangible investment and emphasizing the importance of such an initiative in understanding global economic trends.

The webinar provided valuable insights into how intangible assets are reshaping the global economy and served as an important opportunity to strengthen the engagement of Global INTAN-Invest with international institutions.
