Call for papers Global INTAN-Invest Conference   “Better Data for Better Policy” 2026

25 September 2025, 10:16

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and Luiss Business School are pleased to invite researchers working on topics concerning intangible assets to submit papers to the annual Global INTAN-Invest Conference, to be held in Rome on 7-8 May 2026.

This conference is organized as part of the ongoing WIPO-Luiss Business School Partnership on Intangible Assets in the Global Economy. This partnership aims to produce up-to-date and comprehensive estimates of investment in intangible assets, expanding the coverage to include high- and middle-income economies to better understand the growing role of intangibles in the global economy. The outputs from this partnership, including the Global INTAN-Invest Database and the World Intangible Investment Highlights, provide crucial insights for policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers alike.

This conference provides a unique platform to bridge the gap between researchers, academic experts, policymakers and industry leaders, offering the opportunity to contribute to the development of data-driven policies that will shape the future of innovation and economic growth.

Topics of interest:

For the 2026 edition of the Global INTAN-Invest Conference, we invite submissions that address various dimensions of the economic role of intangible assets, with an emphasis on their policy implications. Key topics of interest include:

  • Measurement of intangible investment (e.g. new frameworks or approaches to measure investment in intangible assets)
  • Data as an intangible asset and the implications of artificial intelligence for investment in both tangible and intangible assets
  • Intangible assets at the macro-economic level (e.g. how intangible assets drive productivity and economic growth; how interest rates affect intangible investment, with implications for monetary policy)
  • Intangible investment and firm-level performance (e.g. intangibles as a source of competitiveness and innovation)
  • Intangible investment in fast growing middle-income economies (e.g. how the accumulation of intangible assets in middle-income economies may vary from those in advanced economies, and how these may be harnessed to foster growth)
  • Intangible investment and competition (e.g. the relationship between intangible investment, market power and barriers to entry, with implications for competition policy)

Submission guidelines:

Researchers are invited to submit an extended abstract (maximum 1,500 words) that includes the paper title, author(s) name, institutional affiliation, and contact details of the corresponding author. Submissions should clearly outline the research question, empirical methodology, and potential policy implications.
